Theatre and Science in MARIONET

Our work evolved from a most traditional theatrical form to a disciplinary mixture in processes and forms and contents, which is due and supported by a balance between the different artistic contributions in a given production.
We will continue to give particular attention to the art and science interconnections, for considering that the latter has and will have in the future an extreme importance in the way we question the world and in the answers we suggest.

The guidelines for our activity in this path are:

Artistic research and experimentation
Research new artistic forms and contents departing from scientific language, methods, concepts and knowledge. Search for ways through which artistic language can be contaminated and enlarged having scientific issues as object of its study.

Balanced union between art and science
Use artistic language as a means of exploration and exposition of scientific concepts, not giving in to an easy pedagogic discourse but, instead, search for a balanced and coherent reunion between art and science.

Novel ways to communicate with the audience
Through the creative mix of a continuous artistic experimentation, the addressing of new themes and the investment in new artists and artistic techniques, we always head for innovation and surprise, for the opening of horizons, first in ourselves then in the audience. We always look for ways to integrate new technologies in our work, new ways to communicate with the audience, stretching the limits of our creations a lit bit further.

Develop connections between the artistic and the academic worlds

It's in the latter people do the reflection over Art and its impact in the society. We aim to present the results of our work not only on stage but also in scientific conferences, divulging the creative research we endure and establishing contacts for future collaborations.

Create institutional bonds

Along our journey in art&science we have created some bonds with several academic and scientific institutions, namely: Departamento de Matemática da Universidade de Coimbra, Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra, Museu Nacional da Ciência e da Técnica, Biblioteca Geral da Universidade de Coimbra, Exploratório Infante D. Henrique, Agência Ciência Viva, Observatório Astronómico da Universidade de Coimbra, Comissão Nacional para as Comemorações do Ano Internacional da Astronomia 2009, Museu Zoológico da Universidade de Coimbra, Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente.
We intend to strengthen these relations and to expand the group of entities who collaborate with us in our projects, for they enrich and give consistence to our work. Equally important is the extension of the target audiences of these institutions to our activities.

Seduce new audiences

Together with approaching people to science we intend to seduce new audiences to the performing arts. One example are those audiences eager for artistic challenges related to scientific themes they work or are interest in, like for instance college students, professors and investigators.
