Unknowness Lab is a research and creation initiative aimed at tackling scientific challenges with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and artists. Its main premise is to face unresolved scientific questions by applying artistic tools, tecniques and perspectives, in an attempt to eventually reach some progress or enlightening concerning those same questions, while evaluating the process and possible advantages from that interdisciplinary approach.

Laboratório do Desconhecimento/Unkownness Lab is an initiative by Marionet together with Universidade de Coimbra’s Centre for Neurosciences and Cellular Biology (CNC), with the support of LIPA (Laboratory for Artistic Practice and Research) and Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente (TAGV), and funded by Direcção-Geral das Artes (DGArtes – Central Bureau for the Arts).

The first topic approached in this context was the Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). A group of artists from Marionet and of scientists from UC’s Center for Neurociences and Celular Biology (CNC) have gathered regularly to discuss the theme, and some of  the results of  these meetings have been presented to the public. The shows The Dream Machine in 2020, The Dream Machine in an earlier 2019 version, and  the Event of the Unknown in 2018, were of particular relevance.
