DOUBLE BILL – CYCLE OF MUSIC” WITH JOEL GRIP AND PIERRE BOREL

Double Bill – Music Cycle, commemorated two years of activity bringing to Coimbra the duo Joel Grip and Pierre Borel to an improvised music concert which took place on February 23rd, around 22:00, in the main hall of Casa das Artes.

The bassist Joel Grip and the saxophonist Pierre Borel presented their most recent work for the first time in Portugal. These musicians are two leading figures in european jazz and improvised music. The international duo were touring our country and presented in Coimbra their influential work in the emergent improvised music scene.

Joel Grip

is explores his work with the contrabass both as solo and as a duo or in the context of improvisation ensembles. Interested in new forms of collective reunion by musicians, he founded Umlaut Records whose main goal is to help creators with the widest possible circulation of their work. Since 2003, Joel Grip has been one of the main organizers of the Hagenfesten in Dala-Floda, Sweden.

Pierre Borel

is a Parisian instrumentalist and composer. He works in the field of improvised and experimental music. He has performed in a large area of the Europe, Japan and the United States. He works regularly with Tobias Delius, Hannes Lingens, Derek Shirley, Tetuzi Akiyama, Christoph Kurzmann and Didier Lasserre, among others. He obtained the degree of Master of Jazz in Berlin, in 2008. Since then, he has been questioning musical creation and aesthetics in his studies of Philosophy (Paris).
